Welcome Isabelle Anelies van der Meer!

Baby Isabelle 1 day old

Our gorgeous daughter was born at 9:24pm on Thursday, July 24 at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City. She weighed 7lbs 13oz and was 20 1/4 inches long. We are so grateful for her safe arrival and the continued joy she brings us with her every breath. We will post more pictures and updates so watch this space!

Thanks to everyone for your well wishes, kind gifts and love.

We can't wait to meet you little one!

Are you a boy or a girl? Do you have blonde hair? Will you have your daddy's eyes or your mother's charm (hey, no laughing!)? Just so you know, you are already perfect to your dad and me. We are ready for you to join our world when you are!

Hi everyone, so THIS is what it is like to be 10 months pregnant. Well, okay, in 2 days I will be in my 10th month, but still. Everything is set. Nursery - check. Bag packed - check. Car seat - check. Bassinet - check. Loads of love and overwhelming desire to hold this little person whose elbows, feet and knees we've gotten to know very well over the last few months - CHECK!

I keep telling myself that I still have two days left in my pregnancy, technically speaking, but I'm READY. I've nested until I can nest no longer. I've organized photos that I've been lugging around in old shopping bags since college. I created a jewelry tree out of a sandblasted manzanita branch. I created a vision board for the fun of it. I've even watched all of the Harry Potter movies in chronological order. Not to mention the organization of all things baby that the little one will arrive home to, thanks in large part to online shopping. By the way, how did our great-grandparents survive parenthood without Dutailier gliders, Bugaboos, Boppy chairs & Baby Einstein toys? I'm not generally a sucker for 'it' items, but the commercial baby world is like a hypnotic vacuum that sucks you in...and is FUN! Even though you know a child's development has everything to do with your love and interaction, and less to do with the Tiny Love black & white activity mat, it' Anyway, I digress. It's not to say that I'm bored out of my mind because there is always another childcare book to read that completely contradicts the previous - but I've never spent so much time indoors.

Before our baby is here and I forget what it was like to be pregnant (they say that happens once your baby is in your arms, but sitting here THIS pregnant I'm not convinced), I have a few bits of commentary to pass on to all my newly-pregnant or going-to-be pregnant friends... The weekly email updates NEVER run out of fruit to compare your baby's size to - this week (40) my baby's size was compared to the size of a watermelon. I thought it was a cruel joke to compare giving birth to passing a watermelon, but no lie, wat-er-mel-on is the fruit of the week for me now. Awesome. Don't wear white jeans to your baby shower (or any occassion where lots of photos are taken) if you're past 30 weeks pregnant - it's really annoying cropping out your lower half from all of the photos. Freshly squeezed green juices are the best way to get your greens when all you really want are cupcakes.

We have our weekly check up tomorrow. Fingers crossed she tells us to grab our bags because I'm 90% effaced and 4 cm dilated! Here's hoping anyway!
